How to choose the right window treatments

Usually, the window is an afterthought when designing a room but think of the treatments as an article of clothing. Just like a jacket, they can either dress a room up or down. They also provide an important function, protecting both your furnishings and rugs from the sun and increasing privacy and security.

Types of window treatments

We carry Hunter Douglas window coverings, widely known for quality. There is a large inventory of styles, constructions, color, textures, fabrics, and more. For instance, window blinds can be gotten with either warm rustic wood tones or streamlined metal hues.

Hunter Douglas vertical blinds are flexible and durable. They are suitable for many applications, they are known for their excellence in solar protection and they can be motorized, as can most window coverings. There’s so much from which to choose.

Explore our inventory in our Greencastle, PA showroom so we can show you the selection which includes draperies and curtains. There are also plenty of shades, such as Roman, with their soft fabric folds that make a room traditional or contemporary.

Cellular Honeycomb shades provide superior energy efficiency. Their design creates insulation between the window and a room's inside temperature. Let's not forget shutters! They come in all colors and styles, including "plantation" which is built right into the windowpane.

Some “do’s” on making your selection

  • Do choose the length of your drapery based on both appearance and performance. For example, the floor-length drapery is usually more formal; that look may be fine for the living or dining area, but not work well for the playroom. Full-length curtains are never recommended for the kitchen.
  • Do look at the shape of your space. For example, if your room has a slanted ceiling or a corner window, you may be better off with a blind rather than a curtain or drapery rod. Look at the shadow and light patterns; thick wood louvers create gorgeous shadows, giving visual appeal.
  • Be consistent in your style. Not everything needs to be a complete match but if you metal blinds in one room and a silk drapery in the space next to it, it will be jarring to the eye.
